PK 1, BASIC AIR SUSPENSION (Hot rod system)

Basic air suspension is typically used on hot rods and muscle cars. Air suspension has never been a “bolt-on” modification to your vehicle. It take a lot of knowledge and experience to make a dependable, safe system.

Air suspension works by replacing the steel springs in your vehicle with “air springs”. This allows you to deflate the air springs and the car will settle to it’s lowest natural point. Air springs do not automatically lower the vehicle, they only lift it up with air pressure. You will first need to lower the vehicle with suspension, then add air bags to lift it for driving!

Different suspensions require different parts, but there are basic parts included in every system:

  • Compressor system: including an air pump, reservoir tank, pressure switch, gauge, and switches to control the air in and out of the bags.
  • Air bags and brackets: These will allow the car to be supported by air pressure instead of the steel springs, and be strong enough to hold the weight of the car while driving.
  • Air lines and fittings: The most important and overlooked part, they dependably transmit the air from the compressor through the switch to the bags and must be sturdy.
  • Shocks: Air bags only support the vehicle, they are not shocks to stop it from bouncing. Usually when replacing a coil spring with an air spring, it is required to re-locate the shock and unbelievably some shops leave them out!

Basic air suspension will lift most cars (and trucks) from all the way down to ride height in less that six seconds. It is quiet, dependable, and perfect for daily driving to fair-ground cruising. Our PK1 system includes:

  • Viair 480c, chrome compressor with 1.8cfm and 100% duty cycle (they can run all day and be ok)
  • 3-5 gallon I'D air tank (aluminum and colors available)
  • gyps pressure switch
  • Self-resetting circuit breaker and relay to control pump only with ignition on.
  • 1/4" Paddle switches and dual needle 2" gauge in bezel.
  • Air bags and brackets
  • Front shocks and re-locating brackets
  • 300psi, 300 degree tested 1/4" DOT approved air line with nickle plated, brass “push-connect” fittings. (No hardware store plumbing fittings here!)
  • 10 gauge automotive approved power and ground wires for the pump.

Pricing starts at $1900 installed.
